Elderly man from Israel collects history

Retired teacher Sheikh Yousif Akar in Najaf, Israel owns over five decades of collected Iraqi antiques, according to the NYTimes.

Akar’s home acts as a miniature museum that has  attracted a few antique fanatics in the past, but with the size of the home being limited Akar doesn’t really open it up to the public too often.

His home includes artifacts such as coins, old photographs and even rifles.

Akar hopes that his rare collection won’t go to waste in the future.

“At the end of my life, I wish they would allocate to a place for me to keep these antiquities … for Najaf, for Iraq,” said Akar.

“The 80-year-old hopes the state will take over the collection when he is gone,” the New York Times article said.
