Men’s Lacrosse shows strength and commitment

The Bubble is full of loud bangs and clanks from the dumbbells hitting the mats as the men’s lacrosse team gets ready for another lift.

Several players are doing squats and bench presses all while their teammates clap and cheer them on.

“Benching is a workout that’s important in the game of lacrosse. It gives us our upper body strength. In this game all work outs will help you but benching is important to help strengthen and tone our chest and upper body,” said junior defenseman Mike Calistro. “It can help our offensive guys pass stronger, shoot better, and be able to be stronger going for group balls, along with being physical.”

Senior defenseman Nick Gonzalves explains why being committed to squats is important in the game of lacrosse.

“As a lacrosse player, it doesn’t matter what position you are, being strong in the legs will help you to success and become better at the end of the day. Being strong in the legs will help the strength, speed, and ability to play the game. Also being strong in your legs will help you be more powerful going for grown balls, will help you be explosive with running up and down the field, and will also be a positive with your agility going from east to west.”

At five o’clock in the evening, the lacrosse team walks out of the Bubble into the snow-covered Sodexo Field for a live practice.

The players on the field show plenty of emotion during line drills, yelling for their teammates to play hard and be their very best. “Overall today was a great practice both in the weight room and down here on the field, of we keep working this hard we will be untouchable,” said freshman Stephen Ell.

The men’s lacrosse team will travel to Waterbury, CT where they have their first game against Post University on March 2nd.
