Championship season is approaching for track

The Bubble is lively and loud as the runners begin their practice with a stretch. Knee hugs, hamstring stretches, and many more are completed.  The athletes who just raced at the NE-10 Championship take an extra few minutes stretching to ensure they are loose and ready to get to work.

This Friday afternoon practice is significant because part of the team is getting ready for their first outdoor meet, where they will travel to Texas during Spring Break, while three of the runners are training for the NCAA national championships. It is imperative for all of them to continue to put in work and be ready.

The distance runners alternate between speed sessions and longer reps to train for both upcoming events. It helps them push themselves when they have to. The athletes who are not competing this weekend at Boston University for the Championship,  focused more on the “on and off ” workout ,which is two minutes fast and two minutes slower.

This practice is one used in the three days prior to a race which the runners view as very important. “We take two to three days leading up to a race very seriously, because this is where the athletes build their mental strength,” runner Hugo Arlabosse said. To mentally and physically to ensure they are ready to blast past their opponents, runners like Arlabosse envision themselves breaking records and improving times.
