The Accounting Club has finally been approved and has big plans moving forward.

The club was approved and inducted by the Student Government Association (SGA) in the beginning of February. The executive board has a lot of plans in order to boost membership and offer something for all students on campus.

“This year we had a really dedicated executive board that knew this club was something we needed and wanted to happen,” said Aaron Young, the club’s SGA representative.

Young says it gives accounting majors a chance to have more experienced students assist them with their required courses and with the Certified Public Accountant exam.

The club wishes to help teach non-accounting majors more about financial literacy. Accounting Club officers say they want to inform students of fiscal responsibilities and help them navigate the tricky world of finance.

The club also wants to offer their support or help to anyone with a curiosity for accounting or even business. “Younger students like freshmen can hear people speak about their professional career and learn business etiquette when it comes to preparing for a job interview,” said Kaitlyn Puzzo, club treasurer.

One of the events the club hopes to hold is an Excel worksheet workshop. The club meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the College of Business in the Monadnock building.

There is a crisis of trust in journalism right now. Many Americans say they don’t trust the news media anymore, and poll after poll shows that they want newspapers to be more transparent about how the news is gathered. This semester the Exchange is asking its reporters to describe what they did to report the facts, in what we’re calling a transparency statement. We ask our readers to feel free to use the comment boxes at the bottom of each article to call them out when the reporters may not have done enough and to compliment them when you think they’ve done a good job.

To write this article I conducted an in-person interview with Aaron Young and Kaitlyn Puzzo. They explained to me the reason behind starting accounting club and what they plan to do for the community. This includes some of the events they hope to put on and the services they wish to offer to help fellow students. With Aaron’s permission I used a picture of him for the article.
