Advance on Gender Bender Dance

by Patrick McDonough

The Gender and Sexuality Acceptance Club (GSA) will be hosting a Gender Bender Dance on April 7th at 7 p.m. in Spagnuolo Hall.

GSA planned this dance so anyone could come and have a fun night with the opportunity to dress as any gender organizers said. This dance is aimed at raising awareness and to give people an opportunity to explore the various ways of expression.

“We aim to create a very specific environment where people are encouraged to explore different expressions of gender,” said junior Connor Hannon, a member of GSA, during an in person interview.

GSA has reserved time during the dance for people to be able to change into and out of what they wear at the dance in case anyone is uncomfortable with wearing their dance attire across campus to their dorm.

“The first and last half hour will be reserved for changing in the gender neutral bathroom,” freshman Micki Topham said in an in person interview.

GSA is expecting 20 to 30 students to attend the dance; the dance will also have a best dressed contest. This contest is for anyone dressed as any gender they would like. A male dressed in a suit can win not just someone dressed in the opposite gender.
