The Clothesline Project will be coming to campus on Tuesday April 9th, in hope of raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence.

Senior Alicia Lasnik, who is a part of the project, said, “It gets awareness out to students, both females and males, about what people do and don’t know about violence, consent and overall how to treat people.”

On Tuesday April 2nd, there was a three-hour long t-shirt making pre-event held in the Cheshire Community Center. The event was open to anyone on campus and gave those who attended the chance to create personalized t-shirts.

The shirts made will be shown during the display on the 9th from 11:30-2p.m. in the library courtyard. Students who didn’t get the chance to make it to the pre-event will have the opportunity to make a shirt there as well.

Senior Felicia Lord, who is also a part of the Clothesline Project, said, “I think it’s really important to let victims have their moment to tell their story.”

Jozie Berardi, a counselor at Outreach, said, “I think it brings a lot of the silence to a conversation.”

T-shirt donations for the event are also being accepted and donation boxes have put around campus in the following buildings: Residential life, Health Services, Northfield Building, Library, Glass Foyer, the Manor, and the Bubble.

If it happens to rain, the display event will be held in the Glass Foyer.

There is a crisis of trust in journalism right now.
Many Americans say they don’t trust the news media
anymore, and poll after poll shows that they want newspapers to be more transparent about how the
news is gathered.
This semester the Exchange is asking its reporters to describe what they did to report the facts, in what
we’re calling a transparency statement. We ask our readers to feel free to use the comment boxes at
the bottom of each article to call them out when the reporters may not have done enough and to
compliment them when you think they’ve done a good job.

When first looking for an article idea, I was looking around for interesting flyers around campus. I came upon a rather simple flyer that didn’t have too many pictures and it caught my attention for some reason. When I started to read it, I realized that the topic was actually a serious one and it was an event that can actually make a difference in people’s lives. I chose to attend the pre-event. At the pre-event I was able to have conversations with people involved in the event and I was even able to participate and make a t-shirt as well. I learned that there are events on campus that can be more meaningful and serious than others such as a dance night or something and in my opinion, events like these must be known around campus to not only spread awareness but to also make those who might be going through something, the chance to vent or feel heard.
