Three Saudi women’s rights activist released from custody

The Saudi government had released three women rights activists, according to CNN.

Eleven women in all were arrested because of their women’s rights work as a part of a crackdown on dissent against the government. The

three women who were released were Aziza al-Youssef, Ruqayyah al-Muharib and Eman al-Nafjan. Aziza is one the Saudi Arabia’s first activists to call for the end of laws that gave men control over women family members.

These arrests have drawn the attention of the United Nations, even though Saudi Arabia has not made any of these arrests public.

Some of the detained activist said they were tortured and sexually harassed in prison. With the prisoners’ families backing these claims. Saudi Authorities would not respond to CNN.
