Saudi Arabia developing nuclear program

Saudi Arabia is working on developing its own nuclear power program with hopes of completing it by 2030, according to CNN.

Saudi Arabia has made progress in developing an experimental nuclear reactor for the new Vision 2030 program which is the Saudi plan to reduce its reliance on oil for power. Vision 2030 is not only nuclear power. With Saudi Arabia’s power consumption anticipated to triple by 2030, the kingdom also plans to use solar and wind power to source one third of its energy from non-oil sources.

This development makes the United States government fearful that the Saudis will use their new means of enriching uranium to develop nuclear weapons.

“We will not permit this to happen. We will not permit that to happen anywhere in the world,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBS.
