Clear skies and mild temperatures with a slight breeze made for a picture-perfect afternoon for baseball as the Ravens hosted the Stonehill Skyhawks at Pappas Field on Thursday, April 25th.

The conditions were also perfect for hitting. The Ravens bats launched pitch after pitch from Stonehill finishing with eight extra base hits en route to a 12-2 victory.

Franklin Pierce first scored in the third inning as senior Brad Roberto smacked a double to straight-away right field to score Joel Lara. Roberto later scored on a double by John Mead down the right field line to make it 2-0 Ravens.

In the fourth inning, Franklin Pierce put the game out of reach scoring six runs. The Ravens loaded the bases with one out, before James Boria hit an RBI single and Roberto drew an RBI walk. The Skyhawks then made a pitching change and Jonel Ozuna greeted the new pitcher by clearing the bases with a double to left center field. Ozuna scored on a triple by Ural Forbes to end the scoring in the inning.

In the sixth inning, Franklin Pierce scored two more runs when Jethro Hurt crushed a home run over the first row of cars in the parking lot in left field. Boria added two more in the seventh inning by hitting a home run of his own to left field.

Stonehill scored two runs in the ninth inning to avoid being shut out.

Derek Duffy started and threw very well for the Ravens, going six shutout innings while allowing seven hits and one walk and striking out 13. A trio of Raven relievers pieced together the final three innings to secure the victory.

Franklin Pierce wraps up their regular season with a key three-game series against Assumption College, beginning with a double-header on Saturday, May 4th.
