Measles outbreak in Pakistan

Measles is breaking out in Pakistan because of the spread of misinformation about vaccines, according to the Washington Post.
The measles vaccine has almost eradicated the disease. Measles has resurfaced due to parents not vaccinating their children even though it is illegal to not vaccinate in Pakistan.
“Their fear is fanned by cultural taboos, religious propaganda and tales of foreign plots,” said the Washington Post.
Vaccinations have also been attacked by Islamic extremists. “More than 70 vaccinators or their guards have been killed by Islamist militants in the region since 2011 although attacks have dwindled to a handful,” the Post said.
In order to write this news brief I looked up middle east articles on the Washington Post. I picked this article because there is a similar vaccine problem in the United States.
