Ultimate Frisbee battles snow in Madbury, NH

On a snow covered Tibbetts Field in Madbury, NH, the Franklin Pierce Ultimate Frisbee team prepared for their first tournament of 2019.
The Frisbee team, some in hoodies and gloves because of the cold, exited the shuttle with excitement on March 2 and began stretching on the field.
“It’s important for us to stretch, especially in the cold, because your muscles tighten up and stretching helps keep them loose,” said junior outside cutter Alex Pelletier.
The Ultimate Frisbee team does various drills to help out their conditioning, strength, and preparation in practice for different situations in the game. These drills include cutting drills, zone drills, and a drill fittingly known as dogfight.
“The dogfight drill is when the disc gets thrown in the air and two people, one on offense and one on defense, go try and catch it.” said sophomore outside cutter and wing Charles Vakassian. “It helps read the disc better and makes it easier to track.”
The Frisbee team took the field for a set of three games. When Vakassian had his chance, he made it count, making a backwards one handed catch to score for Franklin Pierce as the sideline looked flabbergasted and excited at the same time, cheering on their teammate.
Ultimately the Frisbee team finished with a 1-2 record on the day, and want to build on the lessons they learned when they have their next tournament on April 13 at Sodexo Field.
