Sanders’ campaign hosts ice cream social
by Ryan McCombs
The Bernie Sanders campaign hosted an event in the library on Sunday September 22, 2019 in an effort to increase student involvement in their campaign.
The students were provided Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and were allowed the opportunity to share what their priority issues were with the campaign. The students were then trained in voter persuasion and encouraged to go out and canvass on behalf of the campaign.
New Hampshire, with the first-in-the-nation primary, is an important state for the Sanders campaign. A new Franklin Pierce/Boston Herald Poll has Sanders in the lead in New Hampshire at 29 percent, followed by Vice President Joe Biden at 21 percent. During the 2016 Democratic primary, Sanders won New Hampshire, so he already has a strong voter base, especially among students, but the Sanders campaign emphasizes a grass roots movement and getting as many people involved with their campaign as possible.
As the Democratic primary ramps up, with the general election on the way, Politics FitzU has combined with several campaigns to increase student engagement in the upcoming election cycle.
