US troops moved into Iraq from Syria, reports the BBC

The decision made this Saturday has given the Turkish military a chance to launch an offensive against Kurds in Syria.

Though there has been a ceasefire for the time being, both the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and the Turkish military have claimed the other to breech the agreement as several small skirmishes have broken out.

Though the decision comes after President Trump previously pledged to bring home US troops Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, has stated that up to 1,000 troops will be redeployed to help stop the spread of the Islamic state in Iraq.

With the absence of US forces Turkey wants to resettle a “buffer zone” of Syrian refugees – though this may trigger an ethic cleansing of Kurds in the area. The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has said, “We will continue where we left off and crush the terrorists’ heads.”
