President Donald Trump’s on the brink of approving a proposal to pull all American troops out of Syria, however that will cause hundreds of Special Operation forces to defend for themselves, according to the New York Times
A senior administration official said on Sunday that “Mr. Trump has since last week been considering a plan to leave a couple of hundreds troops in northeast Syria, near the border with Iraq, for counter-terrorism efforts.”
Trump has been leaning in favor of a new Pentagon plan keeping a small group of American troops in eastern Syria. A senior administration official said on Sunday, “About two hundred are left to combat the Islamic State and block advance of the Syrian government and Russian forces into this region of combat.”
If Trump were to approve the proposal he would be leaving two hundred Special Operations forces in eastern Syria. This would mark the second time in less than a year that Trump has tried to reverse his order to pull troops from the country.
Criticism from former military commanders, Democrats and Republican allies undergoes President Trump’s actions for pulling back United State troops from Syria’s border.
A senior administration official said on Sunday that “Mr. Trump has since last week been considering a plan to leave a couple of hundreds troops in northeast Syria, near the border with Iraq, for counter-terrorism efforts.”
The officials indicated that President Trump perhaps delayed the deployment of those small contingent troops as a responsible way to maintain regional and American security, without violating his campaign pledge.
