FPU journalism students in action
At the bottom of each newsbrief and article you now see a photograph of the student who wrote it.
That’s not something we normally do, but these are extraordinary times – and what you see is the work of students who have risen to the challenge of those times.
They’re journalism students who know that the job of journalism is to inform. They also know that without an informed public democracy is in danger.
Two weeks ago a message went out to the students, in the form of a Sway presentation, entitled “It’s time to do good journalism.” And that’s what they decided to do.
Even though the rest of the campus community was still awaiting the re-start of the semester, in a totally online format, these students got to work by March 23. What you see here – as of March 27 – is the result of their creating newsbriefs from articles around the world. You also see the first few articles written about what FPU students and others have been through during these trying times. There will be more to come in the weeks ahead.
With this issue of the Exchange, the writers and reporters are demonstrating that they’re not just students – they’re journalists. You’re seeing their photos at the bottom of what they write because they deserve the credit for what they’re doing.
