Final Season Cut Short

Senior captain of the Men’s lacrosse team Chris Breault, went to two other colleges before coming to Franklin Pierce. A fifth year, Breault was geared up for his final season of lacrosse, a sport he has been playing since he was in third grade. However, due to the outbreak of coronavirus, Breault’s last season had to be cut short as it was canceled.
There was a glimpse of hope that the NE-10 would have the remaining games played after a month’s suspension, giving the Men’s lacrosse team their last three games including their Senior Night.
The news of this made the last practice of the year canceled and replaced with a team meeting.“It wasn’t what any of us wanted, but there was still some hope that we’d be back together at some point,” said Breault. This was the case as the season was finally canceled about a week later. “I was at home on spring break when I found out,” said Breault, “I was speechless, it still doesn’t feel real. It was heartbreaking to find out that my potentially last season is over.”
The cancelations of the spring sports season was nationwide when the NCAA announced the heartbreaking news. Final seasons of players’ careers had to be cut short. “You know that someday you’ll play your last game, something I thought would be at the end of this season, but apparently my career ended three weeks ago against Post,” said Breault.
The NCAA has granted all seniors another year of eligibility, but many aren’t likely to take it, due to reasons like jobs lined up for after graduation. “I haven’t made my decision yet, it’s just such a weird situation for everyone. It still doesn’t feel like my career is over just yet,” said Breault.
