Katie’s horrible haircut
by Magnolia McComish
Chop chop chop the golden strands float to the floor, fringe was the goal. But in the end, this haircut looked more like when a child gets their hands on a pair of scissors for the first time.
Looking into the mirror for the big reveal, the blood drained from Katie Cosgrove’s face when she saw what had happened to her once long, thick hair. The silence grew louder between her and her best friend, Quinn Evarts.
Evarts’s eyes met Cosgrove’s in the mirror. Breaking the silence Evarts said, “oh my god, you hate it don’t you.”
Cosgrove panicked going over all the ways to let her friend down easily, but it was too late. Evarts’s eyes filled with tears.
Cosgrove turned away from her reflection and faced Evarts, explaining that it was just not what she was used to, it was just a lot thinner than before.
“Quinn is the handy-man type; she can just do anything if she has a vision for it,” said Cosgrove. “I should have known that you can’t just give a fringe haircut with craft scissors and no experience, I feel bad because I told her to do it.”
Cosgrove felt worse as the days went by, her hair was not getting any better, and facing Evarts seemed impossible. She knew she had to make an appointment to fix her hair.
“Getting the hair cut was its own problem, parking was terrible I was freaking out already and was just worried after what happened last time my hair was cut,” said Cosgrove.
Cosgrove had lost a total of seven inches of hair. She showed Evarts the new cut and it was clear that getting it cut short was the right thing to do.
“Everyone says they like it way more now; I just wish I didn’t have to hurt Quinn’s feelings to get here,” said Cosgrove. “I’ve been wanting to cut it short for a while anyway.”
