Slice of sporting life: Rochford looks for revenge
Brad Rochford had to be held back by his teammates as he walked off the Bubble turf. After starting the year 6-0, Rochford’s flag football team finished in a 68-68 tie that ended with Rochford being tackled on his way to scoring the winning touchdown.
Although it was just an intramural game, it was a chippy contest filled with tension and four letter words. Now, the two teams will face each other again tonight.
“I can’t wait to get at those guys again,” Rochford said as he unpacked his cleats getting ready for practice. The emotions were still high a whole day after the game’s conclusion. Rochford still couldn’t believe he was tackled playing flag football. “We win that game if they don’t wrestle me down on that last play,” he said.
With his headphones blaring, he was locked in, showing motivation to improve in each step. Turf pellets flew as Rochford ran each route with a sense of urgency. Every cut he took seemed harder and quicker than the last. He practiced juking and changing direction, making sure this game will end differently.
“I’m not letting them tackle me again,” said Rochford with a driven look in his eye.
