Celebration of Life: Paul Lambert
by Ryan McCombs
The six of us packed into a cramped school van and drove in silence. It was two in the morning, none of us had slept, and we were only in the first hour of what would end up being a 22-hour day. Well, most of us were silent, but not Paul Lambert who, as he put it, had his energy levels “on a twelve.”
“We’re going to be in the most important place in the country this weekend, how could I not be excited?” he asked.
Ever since he was a kid, Lambert, the student director of Politics FitzU, has been passionate about politics. “My dad is a history professor and so, from a young age I’ve always had history and politics around my life. I’ve always found the political system in America really interesting,” Lambert said.
Lambert served as a leader for the other five students on the trip. “Working with Paul keeps me motivated, he’s always hunting for a new story,” said Casey Eldred, who was with us on the trip.
When he wasn’t interviewing voters on camera, or writing columns for the Boston Herald, Lambert was helping other students work through their own story ideas. His personal highlight of the trip was when he got to invited into the home of Dartanyan Brown, a Bernie Sanders volunteer. Even while Lambert was interviewing him on camera, he was also writing a story about him for the Boston Herald in his head.
He kept his energy “on a twelve” for the whole trip.
