Newsbrief: Spain counts fewer covid-19 cases

6,400 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Spain on March 30, the fewest in a week, according to BBC.com.

Foreign Minister Arancha González says Spain’s latest national figures show that the virus’ upwards curve appears to be flattening out. 

Since March 14, the country has been in almost complete lockdown. Residents are only allowed to leave their homes for work, essential food, medicine, and care for relatives. 

The biggest challenge facing Spain is the pressure on the intensive care units. The new restrictions placed on March 30 will help contain the spread. 

On March 30, a minute of silence was held in Madrid to remember those who have died due to the virus. Spain is the country with the highest number of deaths behind Italy. 

As of April 1st, Spain had 102,136 cases of the virus and 9,053 deaths, Italy’s total death toll increased to 13,155, and the US had 198,934 cases and 4,357 deaths, according to ABC News.
