How covid-19 is affecting NYC USPS postal workers

Diogenes Almanzar, a three-year employee at the United States Postal Service, is facing many difficulties during this pandemic.
Covid-19 has affected his workplace. Almanzar said, “This has affected my job drastically, a couple of my co-workers at my job tested positive, which puts me at more risk because of how easy it could spread. They did not know they had till they went to get tested.”
“I put my health at risk every day because my station is not big so it’s really difficult to practice social distancing with my co-workers. But when I work in the field there are a few people that recognize me and still try to socialize with me,” said Almanzar.
Almanzar has also faced difficulties with the increase in packages that have reached the station, forcing him to work more hours than usual.”The volume of packages has increased, ” he said. “I went from working fifty to sixty hours a week to now working seventy plus hours.”
“It’s more of a wear and tear now. Sometimes I can’t get up in the mornings,” said Almanzar.
