Student Needs Assessment for students leaving campus housing for extended period during global pandemic
By Paul Magliarditi
Cole Dorman and Kayla Thompson submitted a poster about students needing extra support while living at home during the pandemic.
This poster summed up that students are struggling with mental health. Additionally, with the change to remote learning, students don’t have a quiet space or the right equipment to learn remotely.
“I do not believe it will be hard for school to get the resources or accommodate in some way for students who need it. Many relief grants have been made available during COVID 19. If the school is aware of what students are in need, I am sure they’d be able to help in some way.” Dorman said in an email interview.
Dorman submitted this poster to the Academic Showcase, but it was also used as his Senior Thesis Project. “I chose it as my senior thesis project as it is a continuation of a project I was working on in my research lab. The Franklin Pierce University Student Support Team reached out to our research lab to create a validated wellness survey to address student’s needs when they are sent home from campus during the school year because of the pandemic.”
Although the Academic Showcase was mostly held remotely, many people were still able to see Dorman’s poster along with the wide variety of others on the Franklin Pierce website.
