With just under a month before the Rugby teams first game, improvement is vital for this 20-man team in its second semester against division II opponents.

“We want to get better, we’re young, and still new, but we can prove ourselves,” said Brian Carey, a back on the team. The team struggled against the enhanced competition and in four matches over the fall season, the team went 1-3.

“It’s not what we wanted, we did some things okay, but one thing we have to get better at, is communication,” said Brendan Neal, a seasoned forward on the team. Over the past few practices, that is still a concern. During team scrimmages there is still seems to be lack of solid communication between the players, which leads to errors like turnovers on offense, or going offside on defense.

Head coach Bill Carlin and assistant coach Tommy Hughes, need this to be turned around fast if the team wants to win against better opponents this spring. The coaches ask that the players watch professional Rugby games online, to learn how more experienced teams communicate and how they can implement that into their communication as a team.

The team is expected to play the Sunday coming back from Spring Break. Their opponent is unknown at this time, but that won’t stop them from continuing to work on improving.
