S’mores offered at Friday Night Fires

A campfire was held outside the Library Cafe Patio the past two Fridays, November 1st and 9th, where s’mores were offered.
This event was presented by Student Involvement who are calling it Friday Night Fires. During these events, Fire Department personnel have to be present so they can properly put out the fire and control it if it gets out of hand. “I have to be there to be there to make sure the fire doesn’t go out of control, and to put it out after it is all done,” said junior Jessica Janas. “I’ve made myself some s’mores too, and it’s pretty nice to sit around the fire.”
Many people attended the event to keep warm in the brisk fall nights, and also to seek free s’mores. “I went for a little bit and it was pretty cool to see,” said junior Andrew Nelson. “A lot of people showed up, were talking and showed how close our community really is. It is something that I hope they continue to do in the future before the snow arrives.”
Throughout the nights, people came for a while before leaving, but it proved to be a success as people seemed to enjoy the free snacks and the warmth from the fire.
Student Involvement has not released anything relating to more Friday Night Fires, but this could change after the turnout that was there the passed few weeks.

There is a crisis of trust in journalism right now. Many Americans say they don’t trust the news media anymore, and poll after poll shows that they want newspapers to be more transparent about how the news is gathered.
This semester the Exchange is asking its reporters to describe what they did to report the facts, in what we’re calling a transparency statement. We ask our readers to feel free to use the comment boxes at the bottom of each article to call them out when the reporters may not have done enough and to compliment them when you think they’ve done a good job.
For this article, I talked to people who actually attended one or both of the events by the Cafe patio. I talked to two juniors, one in person and the other via social media. I talked to the student who went for the smores in person and the firefighter on social media. I tried to contact the heads of student involvement but was unable to get anything from them.
