On-campus snow tubing in full force

Campus Rec is providing students with the opportunity to go snow tubing down the small hills on campus with their friends.

The snow tubes are taken out of storage every time that it snows a substantial amount and the tubes can be found at the top of the hill by the Thoreau Art Gallery.

Since its inception, snow tubing has generated predominantly positive reviews by students. Many students view snow tubing and the other on-campus recreational activities as privileges that many other colleges don’t provide. “One of the reasons why I chose this school was the fact that there are so many recreational activities to participate in. The other schools that I visited didn’t have nearly as many outdoor activities that would keep me occupied,” said sophomore Jessica Grimmer in an in-person interview.

After this most recent snowfall, many students have began to take the snow tubes out for a spin and launch themselves and their friends down the hills with full force. It’s not common for a college to have such a unique outdoor activity on campus such as snow tubing, but FPU defies the odds. “It was fun, but really icy so it made the tubes go faster. We had to jump off before we reached the street,” said junior Stephanie LeClair in an in-person interview.

There is a crisis of trust in journalism right now. Many Americans say they don’t trust the news media anymore, and poll after poll shows that they want newspapers to be more transparent about how the news is gathered. This semester the Exchange is asking its reporters to describe what they did to report the facts, in what we’re calling a transparency statement. We ask our readers to feel free to use the comment boxes at the bottom of each article to call them out when the reporters may not have done enough and to compliment them when you think they’ve done a good job.

For this article, I spoke with a couple students who have participated in the snow tubing and I asked them what they thought of the experience. I gathered information about the storage of the snow tubes and the weather conditions that allows for them to be taken out and used on the small hills. I took notice of the time and effort that the Department of Recreation has dedicated to keeping us occupied with new and exciting activities, especially during the winter months.
