Slice of sporting life: Ian Melewski’s patience runs out

Junior Ian Melewski joined his friends on a warm September evening to watch an NFL game on Sunday. Carrie Underwood’s voice singing the Sunday Night Football theme song filled the Franklin Pierce dorm room.

The Atlanta Falcons were battling the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFL’s Sunday night matchup that Ian has watched religiously ever since he was a kid. Ian wasn’t watching from his own living room, but the multi-colored lights hanging throughout the room made for a comfortable setting. Ian loves football and even though his favorite team, the Patriots, had already played earlier that day, Ian was not done watching football.

Although Ian lives and breathes football, he was less than impressed by halftime with the Falcons ahead 10-6. “Now we’re cooking with gas”, Ian grumbled sarcastically, fighting through a yawn. “I can’t stay up to watch this game If it’s just going to be a snoozefest” Ian said as he left for bed at halftime.

Ian’s patience ran out that Sunday Night, but it won’t prevent him from dawning the Patriots colors and returning to the TV screen to watch the NFL games next week.
