Wellness Wednesday included glass bottle policy refresher

The Student Conduct Board had a glass bottle policy booth set up during the Wellness Wednesday event in the glass foyer this past Wednesday, October 30th.
“This was to educate Franklin Pierce students on the glass bottle policy as it is not widely advertised,” said senior Bryanna Williams, chair of the Student Conduct Board.
There is a common misconception within the student community that all glass bottles are prohibited from campus, she said.
When students who were there for Wellness Wednesday were asked about the policy, they seemed to believe that all glass bottles were not allowed.
The glass bottle policy states that beer bottles are prohibited although other glass bottles, such as Snapple or wine bottles, are allowed, according to the student handbook. The reasoning for the policy is to protect the
campus and its members.
Beer bottles are strictly prohibited due to students in previous years throwing and/or breaking them.
Lakeview Townhouses specifically has seen a rise in broken glass bottles compared to other residential halls on campus, according to Kristina Lynch. The biggest concern with broken bottles at Lakeview is the amount of traffic going in and out, making shattered glass that much more dangerous, according to Student Conduct Board advisor.
“Franklin Pierce is a beautiful campus and we should work together to keep it as such,” said Williams.
Transparency Statement: I was on scene for the glass bottle policy table that was set up in the glass foyer during Wellness Wednesday last week, on October 30th. I interacted with the members working the table as well as had conversation with members of the Student Conduct Board to get an idea of their reasoning behind the entire event.
