“Fact finding” is the key to get through your exams

by Kasumi Matsumoto

Professor Salle Page presented some tips and keys to study for exams at a workshop Study Strategies for Tests and Exam at Marulli Lounge, Peterson Hall, on November 6th.

Center Academic Excellence (CAE) invited Page to give students advice on taking exam since finals week is coming up in less than a month.

Page is an organic-chemistry and bio-chemistry professor, and considers himself “one of the hardest professors” on campus. “Fact finding” is the first thing students need to do; what the lecture is about, what kind of test would be provided, how and where you can study, and most importantly, “assess your strategy”. “The earlier you can do the fact finding, the better off you are going to be,” Page said.

Freshman So Nakamura, attended the school workshop for the first time. As an international student from Japan, which has a completely different culture as well as language, he said “It was really helpful.” Nakamura also agreed with a point Page made about the importance of office hours.

“But it is the same thing, it does not matter where you are. You got to do what you got to do,” Nakamura said.

CAE is going to provide a few more events for the rest of the semester, including a resume workshop on November 13th, at 1:00 p.m. at Career Services 5th Floor DiPietro Library, and a stress management workshop with therapy dogs on December 4th, at 6:30 p.m in Marulli Lounge.

I think what Professor Page said about “ fact finding “ is an important aspect to studying each student who has finals coming up should consider! It seems it will be beneficial to the person who is taking an exam because they have a strategy to study so it will be less stressful when exam time comes up.
