Prospect students visit Franklin Pierce and stay the night

by Jalen Beliveau

Students were able to get an up-close and personal look at life at FPU Sunday, February 9th as part of the first overnight program of the semester.

The future Ravens went to classes, met staff, learned about programs on campus, and spent a night in the dorms.

Students got their room assignment and met their host, parents departed to go to their hotels and later have dinner with President Kim Mooney. At that time the students attended an ice-breaker event in Spagnuolo Hall with their host. Following that students had dinner and went back to Spagnuolo Hall for a social event. Afterward the group split up and it was then up to the hosts on what to do.

“The goal is to show the overnights a good time,” said sophomore Ashaki Gallimore. “We want them to want to come back.”

Sophomore Jordan Knapp said, “It’s an important night. The students often decide during their stay if this is the school for them.”

Each host is required to fill out an information sheet about themselves, and the sheets are used to help pair them with a compatible guest.

The Overnight program will continue on  February 17th, 18th, 23rd, and March 1st as well as March 8th.

The students’ host takes them through campus showing them FPU from a student’s perspective. Most hosts group together to play games or watch movies in order to entertain their guests.

“It looked like there were more overnights this year than last year and everyone had a good time too. We have a good group of hosts that go out of their way to make sure everyones having fun,” said Gallimore. “I’m excited for the next Overnight.”

Overnight hosts are invited to an ice-cream social on Wednesday, February 27th from 5-6 p.m. according to an email sent out by Amber Walker, assistant director of Admissions.

“I can’t thank you all enough,”  Walker wrote in her email. “I can see in the surveys and conversations with students that the work you do makes a significant impact on their decision to attend.”
