Khalifa Hifter, the military ruler of eastern Libya, is currently attacking cities in an attempt to take over the whole country, according to the New York Times.
The capital Tripoli has been being attacked now for 10 months. For the past month, Hifter has cut off Libya’s oil production in order to financially attack the Tripoli government.
The city of Benghazi was seized after four years of being attacked and has been left in wreckage. Some residents have returned to their original apartments; however, they now live in fear of one another because of the violence taking place on the streets.
The Avengers of Blood, which consists of the Awaqir tribe, are supported by Hifter and are believed to be behind the disappearances and assassinations in Benghazi. Those who work and fight for Hifter have a sense of immunity, and carry out violent acts on the citizens.
