Newsbrief: Ways to help during this national pandemic
by Addison Wright
Because of Covid-19, local and national non-profit organizations are seeking out aid from the public due to increased demand on their services and because the organizations have had to cancel crucial fundraising events, according to The Washington Post.
As a result of the virus, non-profit organizations face an increased demand while being compelled to cancel crucial fundraising events. However many of these organizations are still accepting donations from the public.
Organizations such as the American Red Cross organization are calling on healthy individuals to donate blood to maintain a sufficient supply. Similarly, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America are raising funds to provide groceries and virtual academic support and activities to children participating in its more than 2,500 clubs. Then, Meals on Wheels is working with donors to replenish food supplies while still maintaining and delivering nutritious meals to the country’s vulnerable seniors.
Many local restaurants, cafes, and bars have been forced to shut down around the nation. According to the Washington Post, Steve Mchugh, San Antonio restaurant owner, said, “Gift cards are like interest-free loans.”
Eduardo Jordan, a James Beard award-winning chef, agreed, saying, “Having some income from the gift cards could help a restaurant get back and running again.”
While these are only a few organizations, almost all non-profit agencies are still in service with a higher amount of demand than usual. By contacting local providers or donating to the national group, help can be given to those who need it the most during this national emergency.
