CAPSTONE PROJECT: #NotAlone by Stephanie LeClair

Campaign pieces are included at the bottom, shown first are the Snapchat filters, below that is the front and back of the postcard, and next to that is a few of the Instagram story quiz images.

I want to go into the public relations field so for my capstone project, I created a public relations campaign. I contacted the Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention (MCVP) and asked them if I could create a campaign for them. They agreed and after speaking with them over the phone and through email, I was able to create a campaign that would work best for them in achieving their goal.

Their goal is to reach more people in need and gain clients. If you do not know, MCVP is a business that is here to support sexual assault and domestic violence victims.Their target audience for this campaign is 16-25 year olds.

To reach this group best, I went for a social media based campaign. Included is an Instagram story quiz, Snapchat filters, a blog, and an informational postcard.

I found that they would appeal to their target audience best if they made themselves more approachable. This way potential clients would feel more comfortable reaching out for help. The Instagram story quiz allows the followers to interact with MCVP while also having a chance at winning a prize. The blog is designed to introduce potential clients to who they would be speaking to if they did reach out, making them more comfortable (I made it so MCVP can add what they want). The Snapchat filters can reach them through one of the most popular social media apps within that age group, and the postcard is designed to be a discrete way of giving out information to people, especially victims. I explain more in depth in my description of the campaign that I made for a potential employer to read.

The hashtag, #NotAlone is included in all aspects of the campaign, connecting them all together. I also suggested to MCVP that they hold an assembly at local schools to discuss their services. They then can hand out the postcard and other information while using the hashtag #NotAlone. They can also include it in future posts. That way when someone sees the hashtag, they will recognize where it’s from.

My advice to you would be to start thinking about what your capstone project might be now! Going into second semester I had no idea what I even wanted as a job after college. That was a lot of stress trying to figure things out. If you start thinking now, you’ll have a lot smoother of a process and will be more prepared. If you want to do a PR campaign or something similar, remember that experts in the field are your friend. Every person I reached out to for help was more than happy to help me and gave me such great advice. If you are unsure on how to use adobe products, go to Youtube. There are plenty of tutorials. Remember to pay attention to your deadlines. You made them for a reason. Lastly, have fun. Choose something you’re passionate about. Make it so that you will be proud of the end result, not something you made just to graduate. Trust the process, the stress will be worth it!

    Hi Stephanie,

I enjoyed reading about and seeing your work around MCVP and the campaign you created. I think you have a lot of great ideas here and I believe that this campaign in general was one of them but also the way you went about it I thought was really smart. Utilizing and taking full advantage of plutocrats you know about and know that their audience is most likely on, such as Snapchat and Instagram was smart. That was able as I could tell to both get people more engaged with MCVP while also getting the message out there about what they do. Coming up with a hashtag for both the campaign and them as an organization which they can use in the future is something I wouldn’t have thought of but its great to try and tie everything together, and be like a thread through all of this work. Great job and good luck in the future!

I really like this idea. I myself want to go into public relations as well and I think this project was done really well. Besides showing your work, I like how you explained the idea, concept and reasoning behind your decisions. From finding a viable “client” and working with them you showed people how you brought this idea to life. Then explained as to why you approached and did the project this way. For example knowing the demographic to which you want to reach is key and you elected a platform that you thought would be best to meet such a demographic. I also how you put some advice. Not only from your experience from doing this project but also being a senior that has gone through four years of education in communications. Showing how your passionate about this project shows how driven you can be when approaching a project such as this. From planing to executing you laid out your steps and showed that you are more than capable to successfully do a public relations campaign. Showing your knowledge of social media and adobe programs you show a great deal of skills. The topic you also picked is extremely relevant and impactful. Overall you did a wonderful job showcasing your skills and bringing attention to such an important topic.

    Hi Steph!
I wasn’t surprised to see that you had chosen this for your capstone, and I’m so glad you did! Seeing you put your energy into something you’re passionate about in class and in SISTUHs is wicked inspiring. I think this is an extremely important topic and you were able to bring awareness to it while practicing your future career skills and completing your capstone. You were clear on why you chose this topic, how you approached it and how you completed it. You were able to truly apply your knowledge and help specific demographics all at the same time. I hope future job opppotunities recognize your hard work and dedication! Good luck with everything!:)

    Stephanie,

After looking at the campaign you put together it is clear that you only excel in public relations. Your style is original. I love the photos you chose to use and the fonts and colors that will catch someone’s attention. Putting together the survey was brilliant. Getting a consumer to engage in the project and learn information that they may not have known. I’m sure MCVP is very thankful for the campaign you put together. You present this on the exchange as your capstone project but I think this is just the first of your many gigs doing PR!

This is awesome! You’re doing this for a great cause, which earns a ton of respect from me. Your website is designed well. It’s easy to get around, which is super-important when people need to find someone to talk to. It looks like there’s still some information to fill in on some of the pages later on. Just one other thing: on The Exchange, your post does not have the link properly embedded into the post. I had to copy it into my browser. Just fix those things and you’ll be set to go. Great start!
