CAPSTONE PROJECT: Sophia Veneiza’s News Demo Reel

Sophia Venezia’s News Demo Reel

Following college, the goal would be to get a job right into media production. I have applied to a lot of jobs in television stations and film studios. However, with this whole virus, I think that it will be a hot minute until any senior gets a job. Because I want to work in a more hands on in the production world, a demo reel is the best way to show my talents and all the work that I have done. To showcase the camera work, my ability to direct, and so no and so forth. As a freshman, you start video production right away. Then, fast forward to your senior year a person should have a whole hard drive worth of production work to chose from. Putting a demo reel can be scary. It ends an end to a time that you have grown a custom to. It also means its the start of a time that you have been preparing for your whole life. The hardest part of a demo reel is just combing through all of your footage. When I decided my benchmarks for these projects, I gave myself two weeks to comb through all of my footage. It was a lot and the headache that I had when I was done was horrible. But, ultimately I am proud of the final products. It showcases the blood, sweat, and tears, LITERAL tears, that have gone into every single project that I have been a part of at Franklin Pierce University. The only piece of advice I have for anyone reading this is that you are your own worst critic, it is a hard thing but believe in yourself, because if you put in the effort, it will get done.

    Hi Sophia!

I think your demo reel is great! It shows all the different projects you have been a part of. Going from different “genres” such as news and sports shows the versatility you have. I agree that is will be hard for seniors to get jobs right away with everything happening but with this demo reel you can send it around while everyone is home. That may help your chances for when this is over. Great job and good luck Sophia!

I think you did a really good job showcasing all of the different news pieces you have filmed, it is very diverse and shows you can be in control of the camera in any scenario. what I think would have make this video more alive is to put low music between each cut, it will show that each video style is different and make the viewer more into it. Amazing job!

    Sophia,
I think you did a great job on this!I like how you explained eveyrthing you do. You want to showcase all of your skills when you do these things! I think it helps employers to show you can do multiple things. It will be difficult to get jobs but I know you guys can do it. You guys have all been doing great on these and should be pround of yourselves.

    Hi Sophiaaaa
I really liked this! And I know this is the path that you are definitely going to achieve. I just noticed a few grammatical errors. Though I think they can easily be fixed with a quick read over. After reading and watching your video I can tell you put a lot of effort into those videos. Im a little upset I didn’t get a feature but that its ok I forgive you. Hope all is well and your headache has gone away!

    Sophia,
I really enjoyed reading this, it was amazing being able to kind of step in your shoes and imagine what you have gone through in your four years at Franklin pierce from starting media production right away to having your own hard drive of work. I also liked how you described that you took time to go over your work showing you have a hard work ethic and the amount of pain it put you through but you pushed through it because like you said “you are own worst critic.

    Hi Sophie,

I have a passion for telling stories as well, why I major in Communications. I like to tell stories through media production just like you! It is going to tough to find a job with everything that is going on right now but after watching your reel I have no doubt that you have a bright future in film. I noticed you like to do a lot of interviews, you’d be great at any news outlet! I hope you’re proud of the work that you’ve accomplished because you should be. Any news outlet would be lucky to have you on their crew. Continue to be your worst critic! Anyone who chooses a path in media production should be. Good luck on your journey! I’ll be watching!
