When students were reached out to through a post on FPU’s Raven Nation app, asking if anyone had issues with their shower water, there was over ten responses. Almost universally, students reported having problems with the water.

One commentor was sophomore Pietra Depianti, who said in a post, “[I]t causes either a chlorine bleach odor or iron [odor]. [C]onstant dry skin and irritation. [I] sometimes feel dirtier than [before] I went in the shower.”

Freshman Miranda Carreiro offered photographic evidence of similar skin issues. “[W]hen I was on campus for the first month my hands hurt so bad and were peeling because of the water,” she said in a direct message. “Additionally I was experiencing extreme hair loss.”

Sophomore Jillian Livsey also posted an image of her peeling skin, citing the shower water as the reason. She said in a comment, “[W]ithin 4 days of being home with clean water [my skin was] completely back to normal.”

The FPU Wastewater Treatment Plant was unavailable for comment on the situation.

As for a potential solution to the shower water problem, the university could officially address it in a Raven Flash statement with a solid plan of action. It would help alleviate student concerns about the shower water’s side effects, and show that they are not being ignored.
