Yuval Barak reflects on poster preparation
by Ivan Bernal Garcia
Master degree student, Yuval Barak is planned to present about “can we use aerobic and anaerobic fitness tests to track performance changes in collegiate rowers?” at the Academic Showcase.
The purpose of Barak’s presentation was to find what types of exercises, aerobic or anaerobic, were effective on the athlete’s fitness. He performed a research experiment with the women’s rowing team.
In the text interview, Barak said, “There was research before that found that Anaerobic training (for example long runs, long exercises with low intensity) and Anaerobic training (high intensity for example sprints) both help them improve. We were trying to decide which one of two (aerobic or anaerobic) would help them more.”
Barak said, “ The hardest part was to organize the experiment itself, for example, scheduling time for testing, talking with the coach, talking with the rowers and then trying to book a good location for it.”
Another difficulty was the pandemic protocols impacting his experiment. Barak said, “One of the tests the girls had to wear a face shield and we had to move to the location of the testing . This may affect the results of the experiment but we tried to minimize the effect.”
