Contextualizing European female composers
by Caitlin Kilmer
The last event of the entire showcase wasn’t just a slideshow presentation, but a live performance, as well.
Senior Abigail Purches held her presentation at 3:45pm.
The presentation held history and details of the lives of young female composers located in Europe. Though the presentation had a split screen that showed a view of Purches, it also showed the different slides and sheet music that was used during the presentation. Purches said, “As a music minor and someone who takes opera lessons, I have always been interested in the History of opera and how it has developed overtime. When it came to combining my love for opera and the significance females have had in our history, it seemed as though it was a no brainer.”
While watching the presentation, Purches gave two live performances, singing the songs of the deceased composers.
Michelle Porcheddu, who attended the event, said, “I thought it was a really good presentation. I definitely learned about different female composers I didn’t know about and I really enjoyed her singing as well.”
Great topic. I applaude you Abigail for bring forth the “unsung” females of the musical world. 🎼 Your use of historical information and the beauty of your voice to showcase the talents not only of yourself but of others long gone of this world. Bravo!
