In an effort to end a feud between Israel and Palestine, the Trump administration put forth a peace plan, according to both Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.
The Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan includes Israel having control over Jerusalem as its capital, while Palestinians are provided a path to their own country with restricted sovereignty. Mahmoud Abbas, Palestine’s Authority president, rejected this proposal, saying a Palestinian state without Jerusalem was impossible.
Some have recommended that the U.S. approach Middle East conflicts in a different way. “We, as Americans, must recognize Palestinians’ full humanity and wrestle with our complicity in denying it for so many decades,” said Yousef Munayyer, executive director of the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights.
Palestinian authorities threatened to cut economic and security relations with Israel. The new proposal from the Trump administration falls short of what Palestinians are requesting although it meets most of Israel’s demands.
