Operations Supervisor Kyle Rao put on the second special meal event of the semester in the Hampshire Room of the Marketplace Cafeteria on Thursday, March 5th.
The theme for the dinner was Italian style with all you can eat food from pastas to an assortment of desserts. Rao said, “The big idea behind it is to get everyone engaged in unique and special. You have the menus that we do out there everyday that change, but doing these types of menus makes it different, makes it fun, and makes it feel a little bit more like you are dining out when you’re on a college campus.”
Along with the food, there was live Italian style music by FPU music majors for the full two hours that the event took place. The performers were senior Joshua Giaquinto and sophomore John Grenier.
“It was nice to play somewhere on campus that wasn’t the music hall,” said Giaquinto. He used an acoustic guitar and played popular classical guitar pieces such as “Lagrima,” “Cavatina,” and “Let It Be.”
Grenier accompanied Giaquinto on some songs playing a keyboard. Friends of Giaquinto, including sophomore Morgan Smith, appeared to support him and were glad to see him play different kinds of music than they normally see him play. Smith said, “It was definitely a new change of scenery which is nice to have on campus. It had other options that you don’t typically see in the cafeteria.”
In order to attend this event students had to pay $10 and a meal swipe.
Sodexo has at least one more of these special meal opportunities planned before the semester is over. The next one will take place sometime in April. “We will do it as a family style barbecue meal,” Rao said. “So we’ll have grills and all kinds of fun barbecue food and we’ll keep it fun and exciting.”
How we got this story: On March 5th, we attended the Italian meal event. We interviewed Kyle Rao, Morgan Smith, and Joshua Giaquinto. Grenier focused on the food aspects and Duquette focused on the music side.
