Dinosaur Crunch, which is blue vanilla ice cream with mini marshmallows and chocolate cookies, has come back to Franklin Pierce after a six year absence.

Charlie Salmond, Executive Chef of dining services who started nine years ago, distinctly remembers having Dinosaur Crunch ice cream. The first four years Salmond was at Franklin Pierce, Dinosaur Crunch was available.

“Since then it has been almost impossible to come by,” said Salmond.

This all changed towards the middle of September when he was finally able to order 20 tubs of Dinosaur Crunch. He describes this triumph as “a long and difficult process.” Salmond had to make several calls to multiple companies regarding the flavor.

Sodexo dining services is committed to purchasing from the local community. According to Corrine Saari, supervisor of dining services, “Local is considered anything within New England.”

This is why Salmond had such a hard time purchasing the ice cream, which was in high demand from the students. The flavor was unavailable at the local company Gifford’s Ice Cream, forcing Salmond to choose another company.
