Newsbrief: Increasing tensions between protestors and Iraqi security forces leave 5 dead

Iraqi security forces are responsible for at least three deaths as they were shooting tear gas canisters at people this Saturday according to the BBC.

 

The protests come after years of what Iraqi citizens see as a US-installed political system which has left government and city officials to enrich themselves with little benefit to the community.

These protests have been ongoing since the beginning of October and increasing in intensity since then.

There was supposed to be an agreement made as Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi promised a cabinet reshuffling and introducing reforms.

The protesters remained undeterred as these changes remain to be seen, and Iraqi forces have even increased in their efforts to end the protests

Baghdad security forces reportedly used live rounds on protesters, which flared up tensions and the protesters stance against the government, which in turn caused more people to come out to voice their support for the movement across the country.

To try and quell the violent riots and demonstrations the Iraqi government has imposed a curfew in the capital of Baghdad
