The Franklin Pierce student body is in the process of selecting courses, which will continue over the next couple of weeks.

While seniors and juniors have already selected their classes for the coming semester, there are still two grades who have yet to do so.

It will be the first time freshman Nadia Cathcart registers for classes.

Cathcart, a member of the Ravens’ Cross Country and Track team, has talked to some of her teammates for advice, including a fellow runner who has changed her major no less than six times.

“She told me not to stress about it, to find something I really love that I’m going to enjoy,” Cathcart said. “I’m going in with a level head and keeping myself excited for what’s to come.”

Other students, however, are feeling stressed over getting the classes they need for their major.

“I’m a little nervous,” sophomore Michael Anderson said. “I don’t really know what classes I’m going to take next semester. Just nervous that I’m not going to get the classes I want.”

After years of opening up course selections for students at midnight, the university made the decision last semester to wait until 7 a.m. to do so. Students often complained about Campusweb’s servers practically coming to a stop in the early hours of the morning.

“It’s hard for people to do, to have [the site] crash and lose a class,” Anderson said. “I don’t think the system can really support all that going on at once.”

Transparency Statement: I reached out to several Franklin Pierce students over the course of the week for this piece, making sure to talk to students from different grades. I also did some research on how courses have been registered for in the past before talking to students.
