A Day in the Life of CA Chandler Price

Chandler Price discusses his routine while he is on duty as a CA on November 22, 2019. Price’s shift starts at eight PM and ends at two AM. Tonight, Price is working in the Mount Washington building that consists of all freshman.

When he first arrives at work, he has to send a text to a “duty phone” letting the school know that he has arrived to start his shift. He also turns on the radio that is stored inside his office. This radio allows him to communicate with Campus Safety, if needed.

His workspace is an old room located near the main entrance of Mount Wash. Inside the office there is a fridge and two desks. Mr. Price and I are the only ones in the office for the majority of the night. Every few minutes, a visitor would appear.

Price briefly mentioned his pros and cons about being on duty. He said “it gives me time to do homework and really focus on not only that, but the safety of the students.” He also said “the worst part of the job is having to work until two in the morning and having to discipline my friends and other peers.”

Another important part of the job is having to do hourly rounds while on duty. These rounds include walking through each hallway and making sure nothing is out of place or anybody is causing trouble. At the end of every hour, he checks the bathrooms to make sure there is no mess, or anyone in danger.

At the end of his shift he makes one last round through the building. He eventually puts his radio away and sends a text off his “duty phone” saying that he is done with his shift. He then locks up the office and officially completes his shift.
