Day in the life: Varsity team lift

On November 22, a cold early Friday morning, athletes from different teams made their way to the bubble for team lifts.

at 8 am, Assistant strength & conditioning coach Logan Papen is working with the women’s basketball and softball teams. Papen makes workouts real specific for teams depending on if they are in season or not. While he explained the women’s basketball team their workout, he has planned a lot of stretching and a very lightweight workout since they are in season.

The days of Papen are very long and intense due to the fact that he has to manage multiple teams. As he finishes explaining to the women’s basketball, he then moves on to the softball team to give them a further explanation of what they have to do.  Softball had a work out doing fifty percent since it is a “de-load week,” his plan for them was to focus on shoulders and back.

Both teams took about forty minutes to complete their workouts. After asking Papen how he felt about the team lifts he said “the women’s basketball just had a light lift today because they play tomorrow, we just wanted to get them in here and get them moving. this week was a de-load week for softball because we’ve been attacking them for the past weeks with weights, so its a way for them to recover and recuperate before we start our next cycle.” After a successful lift’s both teams are looking forward to upcoming games and practices.
