CAPSTONE PROJECT: CeLynn Siemons Photography Portfolio

The goal of my project was to create a hub/portfolio for me to share my best work and be a representation of my photography and writing capabilities. I hope to one day have a job in the outdoor recreation field. To obtain this goal I wanted to have a concentrated portfolio based on this type of photography. It is a website that employers will be able to view from seeing the link on my resume or LinkedIn. It will show what I have been able to accomplish up until my graduation of college. I chose to do this project because having categorized examples of my work shows what areas I excel in but also how I can be applicable in many different ways. I have lots of outdoor recreation photography, portraits, published newspaper articles from high school and national published photographs from college. I spent many hours going through old hard drives, editing photographs, selecting my favorites and choosing layouts for my site. I would advise that all sophomores and juniors store their best work (writing pieces, photographs, videos, pieces for demo reels) on a hard drive or in a folder you can easily reach from when you choose to pull everything together and display your work. Having my photographs stored on several different mediums made what should have been a couple hours of work into days of work. Overall, I have redone the website several times since beginning but am very happy with how clean and organized it came out.

    Hi CeLynn,

Wow! Your website is amazing! It is so organized and says so much about you. Your pictures pop with color and the shots make the viewer feel almost like they’re actually there. I think it will give future employers a well-rounded view of all that you have accomplished not only while here at FPU but personally as well. I can only aspire to be half as creative as you are. Thanks for sharing a piece of yourself with the underclassmen here at FPU. Congratulations and best of luck to you in the future.

    Hi CeLynn,

Your website and work in general is fantastic! I can see your passion for photography, writing, and the outdoors in your work. I think having your work organized in a way that is easy to access and navigate but again shows your passion and talent is amazing. I think employers will get a great understanding of both you and your work from this website. I really appreciate you sharing this with other students at FPU. I’m also very passionate about photography, the outdoors, and most of the activities you photographed so seeing your work was very inspiring. Great job and congratulations!

    CeLynn,

This is great stuff. You’ve got all the bases covered in terms of your photojournalism, from content covering sports to portraits to nature shots. The “About” section on the site humanizes you, which is really important in communication-centric jobs. Most importantly, the content you’ve selected for the site is amazing! Great idea to have a contact form at the bottom of each page.

The only thing I would think about adding to your website would be a PDF of your resume for potential employers to see, right at the bottom of your “About” section.

Congratulations on making it through all four years of college, especially with this last semester being completed under, shall we say, trying conditions. Good luck!

  4. This website looks very professionally designed. The images you put up are vibrant and very well shot, finding them is easy and they are sorted accordingly. On top of displaying your ability to capture imagery the “Journalism Work” tab is a great display of your time spent working in the field. This doesn’t just show your skills with the camera, but your writing ability and stances on topics you feel are important. For an aspiring recreational photographer the format helps display your ability, its a great portfolio and I hope it helps you in the future!
