Column: Elvis Lara cares for the elderly
by Joel Lara
This pandemic has forced the Village of Joy day care service for the elderly to close but it didn’t stop Elvis Lara from providing them help.
With this pandemic forcing elderly programs to close, it started to worry Lara whether or not they would have someone to cook and care for them.
Lara said, “Many of the elders that come here to the village of joy were scared when we had to close due to the fact that they lived alone and aren’t able to cook for themselves, I couldn’t just let them struggle something had to be done.”
Lara couldn’t stay home knowing that these elderly people relied on this program for food and activities to do.
Lara said, “I was able to talk to the city and obviously with the status our country is at right now it’s best if they all stay home but I requested if food and services can still be provided.”
Everything all throughout the city except essential shops were closed and Lara wanted to use that to his advantage to support those who needed it.
Lara said“I wouldn’t want anything to happen to any of them, they already come to this program because they have nobody to care of them throughout the day, we are their family.”
After being able to continue services at the Village of joy it has benefited Lara by not having to file for unemployment and keep the elderly people indoors and avoid getting the virus.
This is such a good idea, I just recently wrote a column on how my mom is working with the assisted living and it is such an important topic. Your writing portion is well thought out however my advice is to add more pictures. it will give life to your writing. Goof work!
