Complacency with the virus will lead to recurring cases

America has seen a wave of “pandemic protests” that not only increase risk of transmitting the virus between attendees, but more importantly shows how the virus is not at the forefront of peoples worries.

If the pandemic is to results in a longer-term crisis than we currently are faced with, it is highly advised to be hyper vigilant with sanitation long into the future.

An extension on non-essential closures and stay-at-home orders has been extended to May 18th at the latest, according to Massachusetts Governor Charlie baker.

Somerville and other surrounding towns have also advised anyone going out into the public for any reason to wear face protection, and to remember to wash their hands as soon, and as much, as possible.

This increase in public safety stems from recent reports and Governor Baker acknowledging publicly that “we have flattened the curve.”

With several states  dealing with protests against these “restrictions” it is more important than ever to remember that this virus can be stopped, or helped by our actions. Listening to these stay-at-home orders and refraining from going into work when and if possible is the best way to ensure that we can return to normalcy as soon as possible.

Governor Baker has also advised any nursing home employees to get tested for COVID-19, another measure to ensure the most at risk among individuals are properly protected. The CDC warns a second wave of COVID-19 could be more difficult to deal with as the fall is peak season for flu spikes, causing further strain on healthcare workers.

Countries like Malaysia that reopened businesses and public services are now having to round up refugees and prisoners in attempts to contain the virus, as laid back protocol to deal with initial incidents resulted in a much wider spread than initially was estimated.

It is  in everybody’s best interests to curb this pandemic, however; it will take everybody to ensure these efforts are taken seriously and immediately.
