Capstone Project: Trevon Jengelly: Highlight Reel Breakdown

I chose to do this project because I  am very passionate about sports, and basketball happens to be my favorite sport. So I knew that I was going to do something related to that particular sport. At first I was trying to think about what would be an effective project to show employers. Suddenly, a friend proposed an idea that I    thought would actually work. I began thinking about what I’m good at doing, and it all finally processed in my head. I wanted to my project to display that I am versatile, and not only good at one specific thing. So I  told myself I am going to show highlights of a senior on the mens basketball team throughout his season, then a portion of it, I was going to critique how that player was able to score 41 points in one game. And my goal is to get a job in video production (sports video editor), or a sports producer, which my video shows I obtain certain skills that are applied in both jobs. So my advice to sophomores and juniors is to definitely get involved more on campus if you haven’t already, RNS is a good way to gain experience. I didn’t start getting involved until my second semester of my junior year, which I wish I  would have done differently by getting more involved during my freshmen or sophomore year. So for those who’re graduating next in 2021, don’t go into senior year clueless about what you’re going to do for your capstone, because it’ll delay you from getting what’s important done. I suggest start brainstorming now on what you have in mind for capstone proposals.

    Hi Trevon,
I really liked the highlight reel breakdown! You really showed how well you know how to create and film, but also how well you know the game. The breakdown of the game against Stonehill College was very interesting to me, because there is so much behind the movements and plays. It showed how in depth a game can be and the amount of knowledge and skill it takes for a player to succeed such as Doyin. This really does show your talent in calling what is going on and being able to analyze it, which not everyone can do. Best of luck to you in your future with sports and and production!

Hey Trevon! I really appreciate how your project reflected your own passion for basketball while also connecting it to FPU. When watching your highlight reel, I was instantly engaged, the highlights you captured on Doyin were very well seized. Also, not only is your knowledge on basketball portrayed but it is also explained very well, so even for those not familiar with terms and certain skills cans till understand. At the end of the highlight reel and break down the tape, I really enjoyed how you used Doyin’s game against Stonehill where he scored 41-points. This definitely allowed for a deeper analysis of his game-play while also showing your talent in sports production. Your ability to also edit these clips are very impressive, I can clearly tell that this took a lot of work and effort. This was a well-done project and I think it clearly shows your abilities and skills in sports editing and producing. Going to almost every single home game myself and being friends with Doyin, I can easily appreciate your project as I am sure many others will. Good luck with life after graduation and great work!!!

    Trevon,
Its great that you connected your passion for basketball with this project because when we work on things that we are passionate about, it really shows through in our work. I think you did a really nice job with this project. I know you worked closely with the basketball team so it must have been really rewarding to see this all come together for you. You can clearly see the care and effort that went into this post and I think that is something that I definitely will be aspiring towards when I am creating my capstone projects next year. I hope that you are able to find yourself in a position to be creating more content like this after college. Hope you are doing well and staying safe.

    Hey Trevon,
Great work on this project. It shows that you put in a lot of effort and time to this. You sounded clear and concise but at the same time, not robotic at all. Your wording sounded professional and showed that you know your basketball. I think it is really important to sound like you know what you are talking about in a highlight video like this. Keep working hard on your craft and you have a really good start on a career in sports media of some sort. Watching this video showed me the kind of work that some of the older students in the comm program are capable and gives me some ideas about what I could possibly work towards as well. Great work man!

Hello Trevon, I loved your project. Breaking down ways Doyin scored his 41 point game is amazing, because to people who aren’t basketball players or fans of the game they get a better look on what’s Doyin sees and how he reacts to certain defensive movements by the opposing team. I’ve played with you and I know the passion you have for the game and also how hard you work on your craft as a video editor. Continue the great work and be safe.

Hello Trevon, great project. your video really shows your passion for the game of basketball, and also editing. I think that by breaking down one of his best games, it really shows your knowledge to be able to pull out those 10 plays from the rest and show the reasons why they are elite. That really showed your talent in sports production. Throughout the whole thing you also sounded very clear, and calm, and it really helped with the quality of your project. Keep up the great work.

    Trevon,

I think you did a great job putting together this highlight reel. I like the approach you took showing one particular game where Doyin scored a season high 41 points. It shows the viewer the dominance he had throughout his final year at FPU. Your knowledge of the game is what puts this video together. Your voice over is spot on, and you do a good job describing what is happening on the court. I can tell you put a lot of work into this and took the time to make sure everything was done right.

    Great work!

Trevon, you did awesome work here helping out Doyin by making him a nice highlight reel. The one thing I loved about this videos was that you used a nice subtle piece of audio music that didn’t distract from what was going on in the film. The opening was very strong as well, I loved the handshake setting up the rest of the video. Overall, I thought this wa s a very creative way to how off your passion for both basketball and highlight film making. Good job.

  9. I liked the music, first of all. Second, this is a well put together reel that shows both yourself and Doyins ability. I liked how you showed, not just Doyins solo skill but his teamwork as well (around the minute, minute and a half mark theres a good clip of a pass he makes). Even though “top 10” lists are very common online, this is an interesting format for a highlight reel if Doyin were to use this clip for any future reference. The editing was consistent and your voice over wasnt distracting or out of sync so all in all it was an enjoyable video to watch.
