CAPSTONE PROJECT: Alexa Asta demo-reels

Alexa Asta

For my capstone project, my goal was to create three demo-reels that showcased my skills in editing, producing, and interviewing/hosting. My main focus was to highlight light these skills and unique experiences that helped me gain knowledge in hopes of eventually starting a career. It was important for me to gather my best work whether it was in class projects, clubs, and other extra-curriculars that I have been involved in. I choose demo-reels because over the years I have worked with many people and collaborated on projects that I feel would benefit me when I begin to interview. With demo-reels, it can showcase soft skills like communication, hard-work, and overall creativity. The work for this project involved, a lot of planning and figuring out what clips I wanted to use. I set goals for myself to keep me on track and it really helped me better my time management. It’s important to gather your best work and organize so it’s easier for you when you are piecing it together. Knowing how long you want to make it and choosing clips that resemble your personality and work ethic is important. Through projects like these it shows how you want to market yourself to your employers and how you want to be seen. That’s why I choose demo-reels. My advice to sophomores and juniors would be, it’s never too late to plan for the future. If you are passionate about something whether it is film or writing, always save your work because you can continuously add to your portfolios. Keep everything organized and don’t leave things to the last minute because you will only stress yourself out when it comes to finding a job. Everything you have done so far in school is a huge accomplishment and I think demo-reels highlight all the achievements we want to be seen.

Wow! You put together three really well edited versions off all of your skills in communications. I believe in this major it is very important to be well rounded in all aspects. I think it was a really good idea to showcase all of those jobs you did and edit them together to show what you have learned in your years in college. my suggestion is to not use that same music for the production demo reel, hosting demo reel, and editing demo reel. They are all very different jobs and different music can bring those skills to life more and show the diversity in this major.

    Hi Alexa,

I loved your demo reels! It was very obvious to me how much time and work you put into your project. I felt it was quite organized and really highlighted the many different opportunities you have been able to experience while here at FPU. It allowed the viewer to see you in action in a number of different scenarios (hosting, interviewing, etc) and you were great. I also appreciated the advice you gave to plan for the future, save our work and stay organized. Any words of wisdom to help keep the stress levels down is a plus in my book. Congratulations and best of luck to you in you future ventures!

    Hey Alexa,

This was a great example of the work and experiences you’ve had at FPU. The attention to detail was clear throughout your demo reels. I liked how it was clear that the people you were working with were happy and willing to be there. They way you broke up your work was very nice and easy to watch. It did not feel like any particular clip dragged on for too long. Over all it was a great selection of what you have been able to accomplish at FPU as a communications major. Good luck in the real world!!

    Alexa,
All of these videos are incredibly well produced. The editing both video and audio is fantastic. I really like that you broke the videos up into three separate videos so that you were able to properly showcase your abilites As someone who leans more on the production side, this has inspired me to do the same for my next year’s capstone project. You can totally see your passion for your work shining through the videos you made and you can see the time and care that went into all of these. Great work and good luck!

    Alexa,
I really enyoyed these! All the vidoes were really well done. You should be proud of them! I like how you broke it into 3 vidoes. It shows all the skills you have and you don;t want to cram them all into one video. Spread them out and show them seperatly. I think that’s smart and it’s giving me an idea to do the same in the future. It think its a good idea also to show all 3 skills becasue employers may be looking for multiple so great job on that! All these vidoes show you care deeply about your future and that’s awesome.

    Alexa,
I really enjoyed these three videos! I think your idea to split up the three sections of editing, producing, and hosting really showcases your skill in all areas! you can really see the time and effort that went into all of them, and they are all equally as good! The whole thing seemed really organized, and everything from the editing, to music, to voiceover was extremley professional. Overall, it was a great piece and showcases your skills extremley well. Good luck!

    Hi Alexa!

I think all three of your demo reels truly showed your determination, commitment, and passion in what you do! I think splitting up your videos into a three part series helped show your soft skill abilities and hard skill abilities. Showing your talents in different areas of your major make you versatile and a true asset to any employer looking your way! Great job and keep up the good work!

    Alexa,
I liked the content and work done to the videos, they look great. It was great that you added three videos to be able to showcase more of your work you should be proud of them. I feel that you telling us how it takes communication, hard work and creativity then being able to show us was one of the best parts. another part I also enjoyed was you giving the sophomore and juniors great advice that it’s never to late to plan for the future, it has definitely motivated me a lot more.

This is good work! I like the decision to place three demo reels in the project. It shows your ability in several different types of content. Considering that the field of communications is likely going to be needing even more versatile people for making content, it’s going to be great that potential employers see these when you apply for jobs. Keep it up, and the best of luck to you in the future!
