CAPSTONE PROJECT: Brian Carey: Falu’s Journey to the Pros

                 https://youtu.be/O7lJxEAkCOg

My goals at the beginning of the semester were to make four feature films for selected athletes on campus.  Due to the cancellation f in face classes, it changed to one film.  I put a lot of effort and time into this film.   I chose this project because I knew we had a lot of special talent around our sports teams.  I really wanted to tell their stories because most of them were seniors and especially this film.  Falu Seck is a senior for Franklin pierce university and has had an amassing basketball resumé at pierce.  His story is special because he is getting professional looks.  He has recently signed with an agency in Germany and will be playing overseas starting in august.  A lot of planning went into this film.  I had to literally follow falu around campus when I had time between classes and work and sports.  We had to get on a schedule when I could film at practice, games, and personal workouts.  I had about 2 months of work put into this project.  Even up until a week ago because I was getting new information from falu and I had to film relevant clips for that.  There was a lot of legwork that went into this project.  Multiply articles legwork by about 50.  Every day I was working on my project.  From changing audio levels to changing scenes and interview questions.  I met with an expert who made films so I advise you guys to seek help from a professional in your field they will have a lot of advice to give you. My advice to the underclassmen is to plan ahead for human error.  Even before the pandemic a lot of people were having issues with their projects including myself.  I was having trouble meeting with athletes and getting film necessary for the requirements.  Plan ahead and stay ahead of the game it’s always better to be ahead than behind.  Hi helps with stress and you feel more organized. Best of luck to all of you

This piece has really come along from when I first saw you editing it. The story line is so clear and it shows the hard times that brings him to a success. The add ins from social media is really good as well because it brings the views in with more attention to the end goal. one thing I would fix is his audio is not the same throughout the video the entire time, especially from the beginning throughout the end, it feels the music gets louder towards the end and the music started to wash out his voice.

Thank you o much Dina! That means a lot. I appreciate pointing out ways I can import everything and will take it into consideration finishing up the piece! Appreciate the support!!!

I liked this piece a lot. The narration was woven throughout the footage really nicely. The music was used well and I liked how it wasn’t running throughout the whole thing, it added emphasis to the scenes of him alone in the gym. The off-court cutaways like him signing the contract and receiving the texts from the agents were nice touches as well. Great job!

    Hey Brian,
Well done man. This video was very smooth and did not seem overdone. The footage taken was very professional and the interview sounded very clear. I liked the structure of the video as well. It seemed very natural and you did a good job making Falu sound humble and super clear all around. There was not a lot of fuzziness (footage wise or sound wise) other than some game footage but that isn’t your fault. Keep up the good work, I hope you do really well with whatever job you end up with after FPU.

Thank you so much. I really had so much footage of falu I didn’t know which way I wanted to go with it. Once I had a solid idea with the interview answers he gave me I knew which clips were needed and what I could add into the mix. Thanks for the support my guy!!

Hey Brian, this piece is nicely done. The way you had things planned out and how the video was narrated was excellent, following an athlete is difficult with the schedule they have and times they practice. you told a story of an athlete from the struggle to the success he’s had over the four years he’s had at franklin pierce. As an athlete myself I can relate to some of the things he said and hardship he’s dealt with. As long as a reader can relate to your work I feel like you did your job.

    • Brian Carey says:

Thank you ish. The questions I asked him were good because so spoke with professionals about how to really get into the athletes head and have those emotions come out and be told in such an inspiring way. Appreciate the support man!

    Brian,
I think you did a great job with this video. The b-roll worked well with that Falu was saying during the interview. From experience, I know it’s hard to get a story on athletes. They are on a tight schedule and so are you, so meeting with them to talk/get b-roll can be extremely stressful when you have a deadline looming over you. I personally saw this video while you were working on it and I could tell you truly cared about the final product and it showed in this video. You took the time to do the little details, and I think it shows. Great planning leads to great work.

    Nice job!

Mayo appreciate the support and yes it was a mission to film the b roll and make sure that I had clearance from atheltics to pursue athletes at practices and really catch up with them on a personal level.

    Hello Brian!

I think the video came out very well. It went smoothly and showed what it should (interviews, Falu is action). I also like that you continued with your idea of doing a feature film for an athlete despite what’s going on. It shows that you put the time in and focused on it like the editing. This not only helps you but also Falu as it shows his progress. I think it’s great that you can show what you have learned while also helping someone else. Great job!

    • Brian Carey says:

Thank you Shane. I totally agree with you. I had a lot in mind with this project not only being a capstone project but this benefits two parties falu and I. And we had talked about this months ago before his season started that I wanted to cover his senior season and make a film about his career here at pierce and beyond. He can show this to other players who are aspiring to go pro like him. Thanks for the support

    Hey Brian great job!

Loved the topic you chose. It was very easy to watch the film and listen to Falu. The B-roll was entertaining and you had good shots included in the video. Our school has a lot of love for our sports teams and you were able to capture an athlete’s story perfectly. Best of luck to you and Falu out in the real world.

    • Brian Carey says:

      Jalen,

Hank you so much I appreciate the support and criticism. This was a touch project to keep focused on at times due to everything going on, but despite that I knew that this would be a film that was special for an athlete of ours to have the chance at a pro opportunity was something I needed to cover for a story.

Thank you for the support keep checking out the YouTube Chanel more videos to come this summer!!!

      Brian
