The president of the Zeta Chapter of Alpha Chi, Leah Varney said, “The Alpha Chi Society is an interdisciplinary honor society that’s nationally recognized.” The purpose of the Ceremony is too induct any Juniors and Seniors within the top ten percent of grade point averages. “Tonight is our induction ceremony, which is for people who are just being accepted into Alpha Chi,” said Varney.

“Typically it’s only for Juniors and Seniors. The majority of the people for tonight’s event will be Juniors but there are some Seniors…” Varney said.

The students who are recognized by Alpha Chi will be able to wear their Alpha Chi pin, and are also able to purchase honorary cords, on graduation.

The society is trying to rebrand itself by putting on more community events, according to Varney. “Right now we are in a transition, we just had our executive board start, so the roles is kinda ever-changing,” said Varney, “But right now, I had a hand on the event and we’re trying to organize what it’s going to look like for new members, trying to make different community events and at the moment we’re shaping out the Chi.”

“The overall goal of Alpha Chi is to get the top students working together, have events for these students to both academically based events like bringing in speakers and also have fun events,” said Varney, “But also Alpha Chi wants it’s members to be more active in the community in order to get Alpha Chi members involved in their community. The goal is to get students in Alpha Chi to go to local schools and be more involved in the community by helping out in any way they can. They don’t want the community and/or other students to think that Alpha Chi is just a regular type of fraternity…”
